Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Carroll/JoDaviess County Cancer Relay for Life committee is doing things a little different this year.
“Since we could not have an actual face-to-face Relay with a Luminaria Ceremony we decided to host a “Virtual Luminaria Ceremony”, said Bev Lundquist of the Carroll/JoDaviess Co. Relay for Life Committee.
The virtual ceremony will be broadcast on Saturday, Sept. 26, by WCCI Radio, 100.3 FM, Savanna.
“The program will be aired at 8 a.m. and again at 8 p.m.,” Lundquist said. “During the ceremony, names of those who have had a luminaria purchased in their name will be read interspersed with music during this special program. You will also hear from three area cancer survivors. If you are unable to listen at either of those times you may still hear the program by going to www.Wcciradio.com and go to the podcast section on the listen live page and listen to the replay.”
Donations to the Relay for Life event are still being accepted. Send your donation, made payable to American Cancer Society, to Bev Lundquist, 1106 E. Benton Street, Mt. Carroll, IL 61053.
“Your contribution can help with cancer research and patient services,” Lundquist said.
