MORRISON – Halie Ward wasn’t about to let the coronavirus spoil her big day: Because her grandfather Frank Ward couldn’t come to her wedding, she brought her wedding to him.
Halie, 21, and her fiancÚ Alex Burge, 23, both of Morrison, were married last Saturday at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation with 94-year-old Grandpa Frank by her side, safely separated by a window and with Frank listening to the ceremony on a cellphone.
Dan Hovey, a Morrison Community Hospital EMT, an ordained minister and a friend of the family, officiated.
A man of few words, Frank said it “meant a lot” to him that his granddaughter chose to marry at to Resthave.
“Halie was both ecstatic and overwhelmed to have her grandfather there to see her get married,” said her mother, Sally Ward.
Halie summed it up nicely after the ceremony: “Mom, this was the best day ever.”
