Audubon group plans November programs

FREEPORT – Northwest Illinois Audubon Society will offer a free field trip Nov. 3 to the Mississippi River to view migrating waterfowl.

The field trip begins at Spring Lake Wildlife Area south of Savanna, then moves down the river for more viewings and ends at Lock & Dam 13.

A carpool will leave at 12:30 p.m. from Harbor Freight, 1722 S. West Ave., Freeport, or participants can meet at 1:30 p.m. at Spring Lake.

The society’s regular November meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 Park Blvd.

Dr. Richard King, a biology professor at Northern Illinois University, will present information about the Blanding’s Turtle, an endangered species limited to the northern third of Illinois.
