FREEPORT – FHN Memorial Hospital's Festival of Trees kicks off Friday with the Casino Royale Gala fundraiser, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Grand River Hall, 101 S. Liberty Ave.
Proceeds will go to the new Crisis Stabilization Center at FHN's Counseling Center in Freeport. A donor has offered to double match all donations if at least $50,000 is raised, potentially making each dollar raised count as $3.
A hors d'oeuvres buffet, music, dancing, a holiday silent auction, and casino games from roulette to blackjack will be available. Payment for purchases at the gala may be made by cash, check, and Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit cards.
Tickets are $75 per person or $130 for a pair. Tickets will be available at fhn.org/gala through Wednesday, at the door the night of the gala, or sent by mail or in person at M45 Marketing Services, 524 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032.
Donations for the center also can be made at fhn.org/donate-now.asp or can be made out to The FHN Foundation, 1045 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032.
The FHN Holiday Movie Series runs Saturdays from Nov. 23 through Dec. 21, with doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the movie at 10 a.m. at Classic Cinemas Lindo Theatre, 115 S. Chicago Ave. Each movie costs $4, and all children attending will receive a holiday gift.
Movies, dates and ratings are Nov. 23, "Frozen 2," PG; Nov. 30, "Polar Express," G (free to attend); Dec. 7, "Playmobil: The Movie," PG; Dec. 14, "Jumanji: The Next Level," PG-13; and Dec. 21, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," PG-13.
This year's bonus movie is "White Christmas," at 1 and 7 p.m. Dec. 11. Admission is by monetary or food item donation.
The Community Holiday Tree lighting will be about 5 p.m. Sunday in front of the hospital, 1045 W. Stephenson St. Cookies and cocoa will be provided, and Santa Claus and other guests will attend.
A Frosty Family Fun Night will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Freeport Public Library, 100 W. Douglas St. Attendees can sing songs with Sean Huguenin, play holiday bingo, and make holiday slime and a holiday treat. Adults who attend with children can sign up to win a $100 gift card.
All of the Community Festival of Trees entries will be available for voting. The People's Choice award will run through Dec. 14, with trees on display through Dec. 28.
Area school and group choirs will give a "Singing' at the King" concert, at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 t King Community Campus, 511 S. Liberty Ave. Admission will be one canned good or other food item per person for local food pantries. Santa Claus also will attend.
FHN will take part in Big Radio's Festival of Giving, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Highland Community College Student Conference Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Road. FHN, Highland, Big Radio and The Salvation Army will accept donations of toys and money to benefit underprivileged children in the Freeport area.
