Trick or treat hours are set for Carroll County, all on Oct. 31 unless otherwise noted:

• Lanark: 4-7 p.m.
• Milledgeville: 4-7 p.m.
• Mount Carroll: 6-8 p.m.
• Savanna: 4-6 p.m. Oct. 27.
• Shannon: 5-7 p.m.
• Thomson: 5-7 p.m.
Seasonal festivals and other attractions are taking place. Some of them include:
Chadwick: Chadwick Special Events will hold a free Halloween party for families from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at American Legion Hall, 221 Calvert Ave.
Hot dogs and chili will be served, and take-home bags with treats will be given out. Kids can decorate Halloween cookies, and take part in tin can bowling. A costume contest with categories by age will take place. Call Janice Parrish at 815-478-5120 for more information.
Forreston: Forreston Area Business Association will have a community trick or treat from 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday, with participating businesses displaying a green ghost so families know where to visit.
Forreston Library, 204 First Ave., will have a Halloween craft. The Forreston State Bank parking lot will feature a trunk or treat, where participants distribute candy from their vehicle’s decorated trunk, at 200 E. Main St. Those interested in taking part in the trunk or treat can call Jane Koeller at 815-266-1095.

Leaf River: Trick or treating will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 in the Ogle County village.
The Leaf River Lions will sponsor a costume contest at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Bertolet Memorial Library, 705 Main St. Classes will include 2 years and younger, 3-4, 5 and kindergarten, first, second, fourth, and fifth grades, middle school, high school and adult. Cash prizes in each division will include $5 for first, $3 for second, and $1 for runners-up, with every participant receiving a prize.
Everyone in costume will receive a free hot dog sandwich, chips, and lemonade, with hot dogs available for purchase at 4 p.m. In case of good weather, the contest will be outside the library.
At 5:15 p.m., the Lions will hold a trunk or treat program at Bertolet Park. Cars will park on each side of the street with their trunks open. Attendees in costume will proceed along the rows of cars and receive treats.
The village will block off Blaine Street for the trunk or treat. If Blaine Street fills up with cars, vehicles will be lined up around the corner in front of the library.
The trunk or treat will continue until no more trick or treaters come.
Sterling: Abiding Word Church’s Fall Fest will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 806 E. Lynn Blvd.
A chili mac and cheese cook-off, live music, hayrack rides, bonfire, S’mores, hot cocoa, kids games, and outdoor movie will take place. A short religious message will be shared. Call 815-626-1827 for more information.
Mt. Carroll: The eighth annual Pumpkin Fest, with pumpkin races, pumpkin slingshots and a 5K run, walk will be Saturday throughout Mount Carroll’s downtown.
Activities open with the farmer’s market, from 8 a.m. to noon at 116 E. Market St.
Professor E Bubble Master will present a bubble show at 10 a.m. on the Carroll County Courthouse lawn, 301 N. Main St. Pumpkin bowling will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Mount Carroll Bowling Center, 206 N. Main St..
A Touch a Truck program with city vehicles will start at 10 a.m. on the lower part of Main Street. The fire department will have water fights from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the old burning grounds, at the foot of Market Street.
A costume parade for children from preschool to fourth grade and pets will start at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Market and Main streets, and proceed to Mount Carroll Township Public Library, 208 N. Main St.
At 10:30 a.m., mini-pumpkin and gourd decorating and races for children from preschool to sixth grade will take place on the courthouse lawn. 2 A.M. Paranormal will give paranormal tours at 11 a.m. in a downtown building.
Pumpkin slingshot launches will start at 11 a.m. at the east end of the old burning grounds. A ping pong ball drop competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Main Street.
Registration for the annual Pumpkin Street Drag races will begin at 12:30 p.m., with racing starting at 2 p.m. at Market and Rapp streets.
The Zombie Zoom 5K walk-run starts at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Market and Carroll streets. Go to eventbrite.com and search for Zombie Zoom to register.
The Raven’s Grin Inn haunted house, 411 N. Carroll St., will be open for tours.

On Oct. 31, Allure of Mount Carroll nursing home, 1006 N. Lowden Road, will offer a safe trick or treat for children up to sixth grade, accompanied by an adult, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Staff and residents, many dressed in costumes, will distribute candy throughout the center.
The Timber Lake Terror – The Haunted Experience is taking place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 26 at Timber Lake Playhouse, 8215 Black Oak Road.
A fun house, haunted house, and an escape room are available. The cost is $8 online, with printing tickets at home at timberlakeplayhouse.org/timber-lake-terror, or $10 at the door.
Mt. Morris: Trick or treating will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
The annual Haunted Library will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Mount Morris Public Library; 105 S. McKendrie Ave.
Treat bags, carnival and guessing games, bingo, costume contests for kids and adults, a pumpkin carving contest and prizes for pre-carved pumpkins will be available.

Oregon: Trick or treat is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Oregon Park District’s Halloween Carnival will be Tuesday at Nash Recreation Center, 305 S. Fifth St., from 10-11 a.m. for prekindergarten children, and 3:30 to 5 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade.
Carnival games, prizes, raffle baskets, fun costumes, and face painting will be available. Each participant will receive 12 free game tickets, with additional game tickets for 25 cents each or $1 for five. Additional raffle tickets are 50 cents each, $2 for five, and $5 for 13, with winners will be notified Oct. 30.

Sterling: Trick or treating will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 throughout the city.
