Volunteers help Savanna battle the Mississippi floodwaters

The City of Savanna was busy preparing for the Mississippi River to crest at around 20 feet, as volunteers from the area prepared sandbags to protect businesses along the river.

Students from the West Carroll High School, and Middle School, employees from Rolling Hills Progress Center, Elkay, missionaries from the LDS Church, prisoners from the Thomson Prison, Savanna Fire Department members, and countless others aided in the efforts throughout the week.

Mayor Chris Lain expressed his gratitude on his Facebook page many times, noting the pride he has for the small community.
