LANARK – Eastland High School FFA members competed Dec. 8 in the state agronomy and dairy foods Career Development Events at the University of Illinois.
The dairy foods team placed seventh overall, with a blue rating.
Team members are Payton Erbsen, Delana Erbsen, Elizabeth Kloepping, Alyssa Miller and Emma Joens.
Team members had to identify cheese varieties, defects in milk samples, real versus imitation dairy products, and levels of mastitis in fresh milk, as well as take a test on the dairy industry and answer questions on a team problem.
The agronomy team of Drake Janssen, John Morgan, Austin Miller and Daniel Kloepping received a red ranking.
They had to identify agronomic crops, weeds and farming implements, rank samples of corn and soybeans, and answer test questions on soil and land management.
The agronomy team was joined by David Kloepping, Keegan Coulthard, Elizabeth Kloepping, Izzy Willhite, Rebecca Kempel and Bishop Groezinger who competed Dec. 12 at the Section 1 agronomy contest at Warren High School.
The team placed second, with Coulthard placing fifth and Morgan placing 10th overall.
