Area cancer benefit raises more than $25,000

STERLING – CGH Health Foundation’s Delicious Designs fundraiser generated $25,054 Oct. 18 at Deer Valley Country Club in Deer Grove.

Live, silent and dessert auctions and wine, spirits and craft beer pulls took place. All money went to breast and ovarian cancer and heart disease projects for women, and comfort bags and hot meals for CGH Medical Center chemotherapy patients.

Special recognition was given to the late Pam Topper, market president of Illinois Bank and Trust, who served this past year as business division chair for the foundation’s annual appeal.

Featured speakers included Cassandra Salmon from Illinois Bank & Trust, who provided a dedication to Topper, and Starr Coleman, a 28-year-old breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed in May.

Shelley Gottel, Chrissy Zollinger, Tiffany Marquez, Jerry Marquez, Teri Crawford and Sara Williams organized the wine, spirits and beer pulls. The silent and live auctions were co-chaired by Lupe Larson, Rita Smith and Mary Spitzer. Ticket co-chairs were Jamie Hay, Nancy Lauritzen and Marcy Lawrence.

Rob Young was the auctioneer. Jeff Hinton with 815 Productions did the sound and lighting, and Sterling County Market donated the centerpieces.

Mary Spitzer and Mary Jean Derreberry were committee co-chairs. Other members are Judy Borchardt, JJ Campbell, Deb Dillow, Amy Downs, Susan Frost, Deb Kuehl, Deirdre Mackay, Lindsey Pistole, Brenda Porter, Paulette Selmi, and Kelly Valentino. Dr. Bill Bird, Dr. Matthew Cutter, Ted Hegner, and Nick Lareau served as dessert and live auction carriers.
