Pumpkin Fest, Halloween fun in Mount Carroll

MOUNT CARROLL – Ghouls and goblins are welcome to take part in a series of Halloween activities, with the Pumpkin Fest on Saturday.

Activities are free, and start with live music from 8 a.m. to noon at the farmers market, 116 E. Market St. Pumpkin bowling will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Mount Carroll Bowling Center, 206 N. Main St.

Paranormal tours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the upper level of Mount Carroll City Hall, 301 N. Main St.

Many activities will be on the Carroll County Courthouse lawn, 301 N. Main St. A contest to guess the weight of a giant pumpkin will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Christmas ornament craft table will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Methodist youth group will have a decorate-a-pumpkin activity from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

A mini-gourd build and race will be from 10:30a.m. to noon, while Professor 3B will present his Amazing Bubbles at 10:45 a.m. A decorated and carved pumpkin judging contest with prizes will be at noon. A Halloween ping pong ball drop for children from preschool through sixth grade will be at 1:30 p.m.

A kids and critters costume parade will start at 10:30 a.m., with line-up at Pharmacy Center, 101 W. Market St.

A Halloween-themed story time with crafts will be from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. at Mount Carroll Township Public Library, 208 N. Main St.

A pumpkin slingshot will be set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the end of Market Street by the Galena Street Bridge.

Sign-up for the annual Pumpkin Street Drags will be at 12:30 p.m., with the races at 2 p.m. at the corner of Rapp and Main streets next to City Hall.

Divisions include preschool, kindergarten through third, fourth through sixth, seventh grade through adult, and business. Each class will receive $20 for first place, $10 for second, and $5 for third. The most innovative design will receive $20, while best decoration and best business entry each will receive $20.

Raven’s Grin Inn Haunted House at 411 N. Carroll St. will have vendors from noon to 2 p.m. The Deep Purple Relay for Life team will have a paid food stand with hot dogs, brats, chips, soft drinks and hot cider. Mount Carroll Rotary Club will have a popcorn wagon.

A fundraiser for the annual Mayfest celebration will be from 7 p.m. to midnight at Henry’s Double K, 834 S. Jackson St., with music from Evan Atherton and Josh Naylon & Friends. Admission is $5 donation.
