Nearly $500,000 awarded for state park building work

SAVANNA – Mississippi Palisades State Park is getting $467,700 to upgrade its sewage treatment facilities and remodel another park building starting next spring.

The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will contribute $340,000, while the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will contribute $127,700.

The sewer plant, which was built in 1970 and had some work done in the ‘80s wiill be almost entirely rebuilt, site manager Jay Nottrott said Wednesday.

“We’ll lay in sewer lines, a new recirculation pump, and holding chambers,” Nottrott said.

Some sewer lines will be dug up in the campground, but there will be no reason to close the camping area, he said.

Workers also will gut and reroof a former mini-mart building for use as office space.

Reroofing of an office building and a shelter already is done, he said. The rest of the work will be done in the spring and summer.
