Area 4-H volunteer recognized for service

ELIZABETH – Members of the 4-H Foundation recently inducted Marvin Schnitzler of Elizabeth into the 4-H Hall of Fame for his years of work.

Schnitzler was one of 71 new members added this year to the hall. In a news release, Angela Miller with University of Illinois Extension said Schnitzler has been involved for several decades with the Jo-Daviess 4-H program.

He served as the 4-H beef superintendent for more than 35 year and the swine superintendent for 4 years, buys pies for all beef exhibitors, and hosted the Jo Daviess County 4-H Livestock Judging Contest for more than 20 years. He has served on the Extension and State 4-H Foundation Board, and hosted International 4-H Youth Exchange and Labo International Exchange students.

Schnitzler and his wife, Elizabeth, have five children who were in 4-H, 12 grandchildren who joined and six of whom are 4-H alumni, and a 13th grandchild waiting to join.
