Freeport legislator’s bill signed into law

FREEPORT – Legislation sponsored by State Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Freeport, was signed into law on Aug. 3 by Governor Bruce Rauner.

In a news release, Stewart said House Bill 4476 was to remove the requirement for people cited under the Illinois Vehicle Code to sign a ticket for a petty offense. The new law also provides that when an out-of-state resident fails to appear for a court date, the procedure is the same as for an Illinois resident.
