‘Man in Black’ starts TLP season

MOUNT CARROLL – Actors, directors and other personnel at Timber Lake Playhouse are preparing for the start of their season at the theater, 8215 Black Oak Road.

TLP’s Jukebox series opens May 11 with “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash,” featuring the music of the country musician. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. May 11 and 18, 2 and 7:30 p.m. May 12 and 19, and 2 p.m. May 13 and 20.

The show is directed by Chris Blisset, a singer, actor, and musician who grew up in Illinois and who now travels the country. The song selection uses works recorded by Cash from 1955 to 2002.

TLP’s Magic Owl Children’s Theatre starts May 8, with “Junie B. Jones: The Musical,” based on the book series by Barbara Park. The play focuses on Junie’s first day of first grade, and the changes in her life. All tickets are $6, with shows at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 8 through 11 and 10 a.m. May 12.

The Concert Series will start with “Reba ... and Friends,” focusing on country musicians Reba McEntire, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Buck Owens, featuring Nashville recording artists Brooke Byam. The concert will be at 7 p.m. May 25. Tickets are $20.

The first Broadway Concert with the Stars will be June 2, featuring Broadway’s first Annie, Andrea McArdle. Tickets are $50, or $75 for a private dining experience June 1 under the stars with McArdle.
