Carroll County Farm Bureau At a Glance: Wednesday, March 28, 2018

Last week, National Ag Day was celebrated. Working with the Eastland FFA, members spoke to younger students on agriculture and had the students write why they are thankful for farmers. These are really too good not to share! Also, they are typed as they came to us.

“I thank our farmers for making food and cotton. If you did not know, farmers give us beef, pork chop, chicken and many other meat. They also make corn, wheat, popcorn seeds, and etc. I also thank the farmers for cotton, because if we did not have cotton we might now have clothes, blankets, etc. If we did not have those things, we would barely survive because back in time they only ate the things they could grow or caught. Today, most people do not have time to grow their own food. We could thank a farmer by helping them by getting all the trash off their field, because every day when I come to school I see garbage on the fields. If you think about that, that could hurt the animals because if the animals eat the plastic and other garbage, then they could get hurt of even die. That’s why I thank my farmers.” – Olyvia

“I am thankful for all of the animal products that farmers produce. I drink milk every day. Where would I get my milk without farmers? Oh ya, I wouldn’t. I also am thankful for the meat that I get from cows and pigs. I love hamburgers and hot dogs. The meat loving people in the world would not be meat lovers without farmers. My mom absolutely adores makeup. I don’t know where she would get their makeup without all of the farmers in the world. Oh ya, she wouldn’t. Also, preschoolers love crayons. Preschoolers would be weeping all over the place without the great farmers in the world. In short, without all of the great farmers in the world, we would be a hopeless being on the planet Earth.” – JJ

“Dear local farmers, Thank you for letting us have are crops, wheat, vegetables. We would also like to thank you for letting us have all of our meat. Thank you for putting the chemicals on our crops so that we do not get sick. We love that you pasteurize our milk so that it doesn’t taste like cow’s milk. We also love that you feed the cows, pigs, and chickens so that we can get our meat. I also like corn because I like to husk it with my parents.” – Hunter

“Dear farmer, Thank you for providing us food and things that help us make our food. Without farmers, there wouldn’t be bacon and maybe even milk that we use. My favorite thing about you farmers is that you get us healthy foods that help us stay healthy. Thank you for choosing to be a farmer.” – Trixie

“Dear Farmer, Thank you for growing food for us. Sometimes I am ungrateful, but I realized that you did a lot of hard work. I am grateful for what you do for everyone. Most people I know are grateful for your work. Keep doing great things!” – Callie

With all the papers that were written, I could fill my column for the next few months. We will post all of them on our website, www.carrollcfb.org, if you want to read more. Reading through them, you can see the things the students are learning about where their food and clothes come from. We appreciate the FFA students talking to the children, and it shows the importance of our Ag in the Classroom program.
