CHADWICK – Kenneth William Rahn, 81, of Chadwick, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Carroll County Good Samaritan in Mount Carroll.
Kenny was born Aug. 12, 1936, the son of Orval and Helen (Schleuning) Rahn, on the family farm in rural Chadwick. He attended Daggett Country School and later graduated from Chadwick High School with the class of 1955. Kenny proudly served his country in the late 1950s, after being drafted by the Army. He married the love of his life,Joan Marie Houzenga on Aug. 11, 1961, at Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton. Joan died on May 5, 2012, at her home.
Kenny farmed his entire life, starting on the family farm. After Kenny and Joan were married, they farmed south of the family farm on Black Oak Road. In 1968, Kenny and Joan moved back to the family farm and bought it in 1983. Kenny was a steward of the land and proud of their Centennial Family Farm. Kenny was a longtime member of Hope United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and helped with Sunday school In more recent years, Kenny attended Chadwick Evangelical Free Church. Kenny also served on the Salem Township Board. In his free time, Kenny enjoyed bowling and watching the Chicago Cubs. Kenny always made time to attend the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Most of all, Kenny treasured his community, and spending time with his family and friends.
Kenny will be dearly missed by his daughter, Deb (Duane) Herin of Chadwick; three sons, Bill (Connie) Rahn of Schaumburg, Brian (Amanda) Rahn of Chadwick, and Kevin (Vicki) Rahn of Genoa; 10 grandchildren, Andrea, Brianna, Zachary and Hope Herin, Josh, Abbie and Faith Rahn, Alison and Kaitlin Rahn, and Daylen Rahn; and three sisters, Joyce (Jack) Janssen of Chadwick, Janice Law of Mount Carroll, and Kathryn Knutti of Mount Morris.
Kenny also was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Shirley Rahn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chadwick Cemetery.
