LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Emmett Joseph Engel, 73, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Havasu Regional Medical Center. For the past year, he courageously battled a deteriorating state of Bell’s Palsy, renal disease, pseudo tumors, and coronary artery disease. He passed due to complications from a heart attack.
Emmett was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Galena, the second son of Edward and Emma Engel. He was raised in Hanover, graduating in 1962 from Hanover High School. Emmett served in the Army from August 1965 to August 1971. His medals and commendations include Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman M-14 rifle, Expert M-2 Carbine, and Sharpshooter M-1 Carbine. His chosen career was with the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he was a field maintenance engineer until retirement.
His choice of recreational enjoyment circled around good company, auction sales, great food, and tinkering in the ever growing junk yard.
Emmett’s spirit lives on through his children, Eric and Erin (Chet); grandchildren, Emma and Kori; brother, Eugene (Marilyn); nephew, Ryan (Tabitha); great-nephew and great-niece, Henry and Emily; as well as numerous friends, family members, and devoted auction goers.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma Engel; and brother, Ellis Engel.
The memorial service will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, 309 Chicago Ave., Savanna. If Emmett touched your life, please come, we would love to see you.
