SUGAR LAND, Texas – Ruth Marie Lowe passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, in Sugar Land, with her son, Dean, by her side.
She was born April 22, 1928, in Elgin, and was the daughter of George and Marie Stumpf. Ruth had been employed by Elgin Community College for 22 years before retirement; and was a resident of Elgin all of her life, before the onset of dementia and her need for additional care resulted in a transition to Texas 4 years ago. Ruth was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church and had been an active participant in its programs, including Meals on Wheels, and a member of multiple bowling leagues and Pinochle clubs for decades in Elgin. Rarely seen without a smile on her face, Ruth was a friend to every one she met, and loved by so many, especially her family. Her legacy will live on through hearts she touched and laughter she shared.
She is survived by her sons, Ross Lowe of Chadwick and Dean (Sandra) Lowe of Sugar Land, Texas; three granddaughters, Anne (Robert) Pilgrim and Kelsey and Abby Lowe; three great-granddaughters, Natalie, Elaina, and Allie Pilgrim;and her sister, Margaret Longacre of Modesto, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald R. Lowe; her parents; and her granddaughter, Erin Lowe.
A memorial and celebration service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1070 South St., Elgin. Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is handling arrangements,
