LENA – Mary Ellen Miller, 94, of Lena, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
She was born March 20, 1923, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the daughter of Clyde and Ada Clark. She graduated from Bowling Green High School in the Class of 1940. Mary Ellen married Oscar Clark Miller on Dec. 4, 1942. She worked as a housewife until 1979, and then became a librarian at Highland Community College for 20 years. She was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Lena. Mary Ellen loved Bible study, bridge, knitting, and the Chicago White Sox.
Oscar and Mary Ellen lived in Columbus, Ohio, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Boston, Saginaw, Michigan, Streator, and Paris, Illinois, during his 35 years with International Harvester, and finally retiring to Lena.
Mary Ellen is survived by three sons, Clark (Susan) Miller of Lanark, Joe (Mary Jane) Miller of Bloomington, and James (Barbara) Miller of Polo; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar, on June 14, 1991; four sisters- Jean Oates, Martha Azzam, Opal Nesef, and Charlotte Snow; and a brother, Clyde Clark Junior.
Visitation was Monday at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena. A graveside service was Monday at Lanark Cemetery, with the Rev. Rick Koch officiating.
