Savanna Methodists to decorate for Christmas

SAVANNA – First United Methodist Church of Savanna’s 27th annual Hanging of the Greens worship service will be at 10:15 a.m. Dec. 3 at the church, 2100 Chicago Ave.

Pastor Joey Garcea and Bonnie Davies will narrate. About 90 church members will take part, decorating the sanctuary with cloths, greenery, ornaments, candles, poinsettias, and the manger scene. The origin and symbolism of each item will be presented.

Musical selections will include Christmas carols, and performances by Vivian Eaton, the 1st UMC Women’s Choir, Brennon Cavanaugh, Hannah Brigham, Judy Davidson, and Terry Miller.

The program’s climax will be the live manger scene, with the holy family, shepherds, angel, and wise men, portrayed by Sarah Guenzler, Blaine Johnson, Marcus Shaw, Ian and Kelden McCombie, Tommie Falk, Briar Nevills, David Murphy, Brigham, Burt Prins, Carlo Stubbe, and Bob Davidson. Refreshments will be available after the service.
