Varsity football scores

OCT. 13

Dakota 21, EPC 6: Braden Smargiassi scored on a 10-yard run with 2:13 to play for the Wildcatz’s lone score in a road loss to the Indians. Jayden Kempel had 19 carries for 57 yards to lead the EPC (4-4, 4-4 NUIC Northwest) offense. Grant Gallagher, Kyle Bordner and Trey Engelbrecht scored touchdowns for Dakota (7-1, 6-1).

Milledgeville 26, River Ridge 6: After falling behind 6-0 early, the Missiles scored 26 unanswered points to improve to 7-1. Milledgeville (5-1 NUIC Upstate) led 8-6 by halftime, then scored another touchdown late in the third quarter for a 16-6 lead. The Missiles took a 24-6 lead with 10:26 left in the game, and added a safety late to close out the scoring.

Forreston 44, West Carroll 6: Hunter Daws tossed touchdown passes of 40 and 39 yards to A.J. Christensen as the Cardinals pulled away from the Thunder in Savanna. Garett Badertscher, Gavin Fuchs, Evan Kelsey and Joseph Bowers had TD runs for the Cardinals (7-1, 6-1 NUIC NW).

Kaleb Hartman scored on a 2-yard run for West Carroll (5-3, 4-3).

Rockridge 42, Morrison 20: The Mustangs were eliminated from playoff contention after a loss to the Rockets in Clinton. Jacob Schlegel scored on a 42-yard run, Jarrett Wiebenga hauled in a 40-yard pass from Reilly Dolan, and Tristan Demay added a 6-yard run late for Morrison (3-5, 0-5 TRAC Rock). Riley Fetterer had a big game for Rockridge (7-1, 4-1) with 19 carries for 211 yards, including TD runs of 11, 88 and 9 yards. He also threw touchdown passes of 34 and 5 yards to Reid Nelson. Nathan Parchert rushed 23 times for 112 yards for the Rockets.

Polo 28, AFC 13: Polo’s Brady Webb went down in a heap after a 20-yard catch and run with the Marcos up 14-13 early in the fourth quarter against AFC and headed to the sidelines after landing on the back of his head. His break lasted all of two plays, and on the first play after he re-entered, Webb took a pitch from QB Braiden Soltow and raced 25 yards to the right corner of end zone to put Polo up 21-13 with 10:48 left in the fourth. It was just the kind of cushion the Marcos needed in a 28-13 road victory over the Raiders. Polo (5-3, 4-3) ran just 36 offensive plays to AFC’s 72, instead relying on explosive plays when they needed them to become playoff-eligible. An NUIC crossover win next week against 4-4 EPC would give the Marcos their fourth straight playoff appearance.
