Carroll County Farm Bureau At a Glance: Aug. 9, 2017

Fair week is here! Here we go at it, again.

Starting today, we are going to be at the fair with the Children’s Farm. The farm will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Paula Adams has graciously agreed to once again bring her animals to our farm.

The Young Leaders are going to be busy, as always. They are hosting the Ag Olympics with the 4-H on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, the pedal tractor pull will be held at 1 p.m., with registration starting at 12:30. The pull will be held near the hospitality tent.

We will be hosting a trip preview meeting on some trips we are doing with Tri-State Travel at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Augu. 22, here at the office. The newest trip we will be presenting will be Iceland for September 2018. Flyers should be coming in to our office soon. We also have information on the San Antonio trip for March 17-26, 2018. We have the San Antonio flyers in the office. Some of the sights to be seen in San Antonio include USS Lexington Naval Museum, King Ranch, and the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. It wouldn’t be a trip to San Antonio without a stop at the Alamo and Riverwalk. There are many more stops as well.

The other trip we have going in August 2018 is a trip to the Northwoods. This trip heads up to Duluth, Minnesota and will be a fun-filled, action-packed 5-day trip with many things to see, including cranberries, Northern Lights Playhouse, a tour on the North Shore Railroad, and Apostle Islands Boat Cruise.

If you are interested in attending our trip preview meeting, give our office a call to let us know you are coming at 815-244-3001. Remember it is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22. If you cannot make the meeting, give our office a call and we will get you any of the flyers and information you need.

The chance to take a farm tour and enjoy our local foods is coming to you this fall. The Carroll County Farm Bureau Young Leaders are sponsoring their first “Farm to Fork”, Carroll County’s Tasteful Agricultural Experience. The event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27, beginning at 4 p.m. at Livengood Barn in Chadwick. A limited number of tickets will be sold for this local dining event. Cost is $30 a person or $50 a couple.

The evening will kick off with a local beef farm tour in which guests will be transported to the farm. Following the tour, the Young Leaders have a local chef, Scott Heeren with Custom Catering and BBQ, lined up to prepare local grown and raised ingredients into mouthwatering dishes. Each course of the meal will also be paired with local brews.

During dinner, we will be having local producers speak about their farm. Currently participating in the program are Hunter Haven Farms, Lamoreux Farms, Livengood Family Beef, Lower Farms and Neumiller Farms, along with Generations Brewery.

Don’t hesitate and miss out of this fun filled evening, enjoying a delicious meal. Tickets are available through the Carroll County Farm Bureau at 815-244-3001.
