Doty wins 2nd state title for wrestling co-op

DeKALB – Eastland eighth-grader Ethen Doty won his second consecutive undefeated IESA wrestling state title in the 105-pound weight class recently at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center.

Doty, wrestling for the West Carroll-Eastland co-op won the championship match, 6-1, over Coby Windle, an undefeated wrestler from Colfax Ridgeview. That ended Doty’s middle school wrestling career (sixth through eighth grade) with a perfect 89-0 record.

On his way to the championship match, Doty pinned his first round opponent in 49 seconds, won his quarterfinal match by an 11-2 major decision, and pinned his semifinal foe in 2 minutes, 28 seconds.

Doty is the son of Andrew and Barb Doty.

The co-op team was led by head coach Brady Knop. Assistant coaches were Dan Hartman, Andrew Doty, Bob Kallemeyn and Eli Rolli.

Eastland and West Carroll have had a co-op program for 2 seasons.
